Lee Seung-gi Honored with Buddhist Devotee Award for His Faith and Philanthropy

Multi-talented entertainer Lee Seung-gi has been honored with the prestigious Buddhist Devotee Award by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, in recognition of his faith-driven life and contributions to society.
The award ceremony took place on May 5, during the Buddha’s Birthday celebration at Jogyesa Temple in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Dressed in a black suit, Lee Seung-gi appeared on stage to personally receive the award, holding a bouquet and trophy as he posed for commemorative photos.
The Buddhist Devotee Award, now in its 22nd year, is presented to individuals who embody Buddhist values in their daily lives and who have made notable contributions to both society and the advancement of Korean Buddhism.

According to the Jogye Order’s Selection Committee, Lee Seung-gi was selected thanks to his role in the film About Family, which helped convey Buddhist values and sentiments to the public.
They also acknowledged his participation as an emcee for the National Music Concert during the International Seon (Zen) Meditation Conference last year, as well as his donation of 100 million KRW (approx. 72,000 USD) to the temple construction project “Building for a Millennium,” supporting the propagation of Buddhism.
Lee Seung-gi’s award is a testament to how faith, artistry, and philanthropy can harmoniously intersect. His actions have not only inspired fans but have also elevated the public perception of modern Buddhist values in Korea.
